Srinagar, The Srinagar-Jammu highway, the sole surface link connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the world, was closed today due to mudslides and slippery conditions caused by inclement weather in the Ramban district.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the highway closure resulted from slippery conditions at Dalwas, Mehar, and Hingani, as well as road shrinkage due to mudslides at Dalwas. These hazardous conditions prompted authorities to halt vehicular movement along the highway, disrupting transportation in the region.
In addition, the Mughal Road, which connects the Valley’s Shopian district to Poonch and Rajouri districts, also remained closed due to adverse weather and the accumulation of snow near Pir-ki-Gali. Officials reported continuous snowfall at Pir-ki-Gali and Dubjan, causing authorities to stop the movement of vehicles for safety reasons.
The highway and road closures are likely to impact travel and goods transportation, affecting the region’s connectivity and causing disruptions for commuters. Authorities are monitoring the conditions and working to clear the roads as soon as it is safe to do so.
