Srinagar: Shia and Sunni Scholars Pay Tribute to Imam Hussain (RA) at Muharram Meeting

Srinagar: A significant meeting of the Shia-Sunni Coordination Committee took place at Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal, marking the start of Muharram in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The gathering, organized by the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama, focused on commemorating Imam Hussain (RA), his family, and companions.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the meeting drew prominent scholars from major religious sects and organizations across Kashmir, alongside civil society members. Rich tributes were paid to Imam Hussain (RA), emphasizing his martyrdom at Karbala. The attendees discussed unity, respect, and ongoing dialogue among various Muslim sects as crucial for maintaining harmony, especially during the sacred days of Muharram.

The role of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, despite his house arrest, was highlighted for his efforts in promoting unity within the community. The meeting also called for the reinstatement of Dr. Kamal Farooqi, a preacher who was suspended by the IIOJK Waqf Board. The assembly condemned the continual house arrest of Mirwaiz and the unfair treatment of Dr. Farooqi.
