Islamabad: The Standing Committee on Energy (Petroleum Division) convened its third meeting today in Parliament House, focusing on the crucial issues surrounding the transmission and distribution of natural gas across Pakistan. Chaired by MNA Syed Mustafa Mehmood, the session drew significant attention to the diminishing indigenous gas supplies and the need for improved efficiency in the energy sector.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the committee received comprehensive updates from Ministry officials on the ongoing activities, challenges, and the environmental impact of energy production and distribution. A particular concern raised was the lack of major discoveries by exploration and production companies, which has led to a sharp decline in indigenous gas availability.
During the meeting, the need for stringent monitoring to reduce line losses and optimize natural gas distribution was underscored. The committee also scheduled a future session to discuss Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives by both public and private oil and gas firms.
The discussion saw active participation from various committee members including Syed Naveed Qamar, Muhammad Nawaz Khan, and other distinguished members, all emphasizing the urgency of addressing these energy challenges to ensure a stable and sustainable supply for the country.
