Surge in Arrests and Searches Reported in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, A significant increase in cordon and search operations (CASOs), harassment, and arrests of youth has been reported in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), as per local political experts and analysts.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during their interviews and statements in Srinagar, political experts including Dr. Zubair Ahmed, Muhammad Furhan, Muhammad Iqbal Shaheen, and Syed Haider Hussain expressed deep concerns over the frequent arrests of innocent youth amid ongoing house raids and search operations. These operations are often conducted under stringent and controversial laws.

The experts criticized the treatment of Hurriyat leaders, journalists, rights activists, and the general populace, noting that many are being wrongfully implicated in fabricated cases. They argued that such arbitrary arrests are intended to intimidate the local population and suppress any aspirations for peace and freedom.

Further, the analysts highlighted that the actions taken against journalists, youth, and activists are reflective of a broader, aggressive policy adopted by the Hindutva BJP-RSS regime. They condemned the use of harsh legislations such as the Public Safety Act (PSA), Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) by the Indian authorities to detain and harass the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The group lamented that the Indian government, supported by its local representatives in IIOJK, is intent on obliterating peaceful approaches to resolving the Kashmir issue. They emphasized that such actions are clear violations of international laws.

In their concluding remarks, the political experts and analysts called for the reinstatement of Articles 370 and 35-A to their original status, an immediate cessation of hostilities, and a resolution to the Kashmir conflict in accordance with United Nations resolutions.
