UNHCR Lauds Pakistan’s Extension of Legal Residency for Afghan Refugees

Islamabad: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has praised Pakistan’s decision to extend the Proof of Registration cards for Afghan refugees until June 30, 2025, reinforcing the country’s long-standing tradition of hospitality.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, UNHCR’s Representative in Pakistan, Philippa Candler, expressed relief and gratitude for the extension, which impacts a significant number of Afghan refugees residing in Pakistan. Candler commended the Pakistani people for their enduring solidarity and compassion towards the displaced and highlighted the gesture as a continuation of Pakistan’s commitment to hosting Afghan nationals amidst ongoing regional challenges.
