Wheat support price fixed at Rs. 1050 per 40 Kilogram

Islamabad: A meeting, which was presided over by Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani at the Prime Minister’s House here today, decided to fix Wheat Support Price for next year at Rs. 1050 per 40 KG by PASSCO. The meeting was informed that the Wheat Support Price would duly cover increased cost of production of wheat this season.

It was decided in the meeting that the shortage of fertilizers, estimated at one million tonnes for Rabbi Crop, will be met through expeditious import. It was also discussed that entailing subsidy of Rs. 25 billion on import of fertilizer by the Government of Pakistan reach the common growers.

It was also decided in the meeting that the import of fertilizers must be ensured during the month of December, which was the highest consumption period so far as wheat crop was concerned.

A Committee comprising of Federal Ministers for Finance and Industries was set up to remove bottlenecks in distribution of fertilizers and disparity between imported and domestic Urea. The Committee will also ensure the elimination of black marketing, profiteering and hoarding by middle men.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and GB Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo, Minister for National Food Security and Research Mir Israr Ullah Zaehri, Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah, Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar, Acting Governor of State Bank of Pakistan Kamran Shahzad, Secretary Finance Dr Waqar Masood, Chairman FBR Salman Saddique, Secretary National Food Security Shafqat Hussain Naghmi, MD PASSCO Maj. Gen. Sohail Shafqat, Member Crop Science Dr Nadeem Amjad, Wheat Commissioner Dr Shakeel Ahmad Khan and the officials of relevant Ministries.
