Workshop on Green Productivity, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency

Lahore, September 25, 2013 (PPI-OT): Environmental Degradation, Energy Crisis, Resource Depletion and Unsafe Workplaces are the issues that seek due vigilance and prompt actions in Pakistan. Environmental Performance Improvement though Green Productivity, Resource Conservation by adopting Renewable Energy Technologies, Reduced Losses by improving Energy Efficiency and Adopting Techniques to make Workplaces Safer are few of the solutions that were discussed in a workshop on Green Productivity, Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency organized by bfz gGmbH, NUST and SMEDA in PC Hotel Lahore the other day.

Mr. Lars Moller, a Denish Expert on Bio Mass and Co-Generation was the Chief Guest and Key Note Speaker in the workshop. Other speakers were Mr. Sheharyar and Mr. Haris from Siddiq Shafi Group, Mr. Rizwan Bari from PESSD, Mr. Ahmed Sohail from NUST and Mr. Saifullah Farooqi from SBS Pakistan.

The workshop was attended by approximately 100 participants from different industrial sectors, universities and consulting companies of diverse nature. Mr. Martin Straehle, International Project Coordinator bfz gGmbH, introduced the project ESPIRE services (energy efficiency and green productivity) to participants.

He explained that a 50% co-financing (not exceeding 10,000 euros) will be provided by bfz gGmbH for innovative investments in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency to 5~6 companies in Punjab and Sindh.

Mr. Waqas Khalid, Coordinator Cooperate Advisory Council of NUST, in his closing remarks, appreciated the speakers and participants for the valuable exchange of information and experience during the workshop.

Mr. Sultan Tiwana, GM SMEDA, congratulated bfz, NUST and SMEDA for organizing such a successful workshop. He appreciated bfz initiative for co-financing projects and emphasized to join hands with industry and academia to come up with innovative ideas to meet the challenges of rising energy cost and environmental concerns.
