Karachi, The World Bank has announced the approval of $149.7 million in financing for Pakistan to bolster initiatives aimed at developing the digital economy and enhancing flood resilience. This significant financial support underscores the international community’s commitment to aiding Pakistan’s technological advancement and environmental preparedness.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the funding package is divided between two pivotal projects. A total of $78 million is earmarked for the Digital Economy Enhancement Project, which aims to improve financial management and decision-making through the adoption of technology-driven solutions and the utilization of data. This initiative is expected to streamline public services, enhance transparency, and stimulate economic growth by fostering a more efficient digital infrastructure.
In parallel, an allocation of $71.7 million is designated for the Sindh Barrages Improvement Project, targeting the enhancement of flood resilience. This project focuses on critical infrastructure improvements in Sindh province, aiming to mitigate the impact of floods and safeguard communities against potential disasters.
The World Bank’s investment in these projects reflects a strategic approach to supporting Pakistan’s efforts in navigating the challenges of modernization and climate change, with the dual objectives of technological innovation and environmental sustainability at the forefront.
