World Bank Pledges Continued Support to Punjab in Meeting with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif

Lahore, In a significant development for Punjab’s ongoing and future development projects, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with Najay Bin Hasan, the Country Director of the World Bank. The meeting, which saw discussions on a range of developmental initiatives, underscored the World Bank’s continued support for the province’s welfare and progress initiatives.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the World Bank Country Director extended congratulations to Maryam Nawaz Sharif on her historic election as the first woman Chief Minister of Punjab, expressing best wishes for her tenure. The Chief Minister thanked Najay Bin Hasan and highlighted the collaborative efforts between Punjab and the World Bank on various development projects aimed at public welfare.

The meeting covered an array of topics including the ongoing development projects facilitated by the World Bank, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to continued cooperation. Chief Minister Sharif emphasized her personal involvement in monitoring these projects, including a comprehensive solid waste management initiative spanning across Punjab.

Among the critical issues discussed were measures to combat smog and improve the air quality index through the Punjab Green Development Program, in partnership with the World Bank. The progress of the Punjab Cities Program, aimed at enhancing basic urban services, was also reviewed.

The discussions also ventured into the potential for collaboration in information technology, with Chief Minister Sharif briefing on the Knowledge Park Project. A significant highlight was the planned nutrition project, which includes the introduction of canned milk in government primary schools—a move that received backing from the World Bank and other institutions.

Najay Bin Hasan lauded Chief Minister Sharif’s visionary approach towards the sustainable development of Punjab, indicating the World Bank’s appreciation for her leadership in these vital projects. The meeting, attended by Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Pervez Rasheed, the Chief Secretary, and other officials, marked a pivotal moment in reinforcing the partnership between the Punjab Government and the World Bank for the region’s holistic development.
