7th United Bank Limited Independence Day Cup Open Golf Championship 2015 concludes

Karachi, August 23, 2015 (PPI-OT):The 7th UBL Independence Day Cup Open Golf Championship 2015 played at Defence Authority Country and Golf Club (DAC and GC) from 20 to 23 Aug, 2015 concluded on Sunday evening. A simple and impressive prize distribution ceremony was held at golf club’s venue at the end of the tournament. Corps Commander Lt. Gen Naveed Mukhtar was the chief guest of the function. Mr. Zia Ijaz, Group Executive Retail Banking UBL who was Guest of Honour at the event and Administrator DHA, Brig Zubair Ahmed were also present on the occasion.

More than 300 golfers from all over the country including top national professionals of golf circuit participated in the Rs 2 million tournament. The chief guest appreciated DAC and GC for organizing a spectacular golf tournament and said that golfing was a lively activity which helped to promote healthy and positive trends in society. He said that holding of such mega tournaments would go a long way in promoting golf in the country.

The performance of Shabbir Iqbal (ICG) was spectacular who won the championship and prize money of Rs. 2,63,340/= with a score of 207. Muhammad Munir (ICG) won the second position with score of 210 while Hamza Amin and Matloob Ahmed finished up third with a score of 212.

In senior professionals Iftikhar Ahmed (GYM) with a score of 70 was first and Manzoor Ahmed (GYM) with a score of 71 was second. In amateurs (gross) Muhammad Naeem (ABT) with a score of 220 was first while Zohaib Asif (DHA) with a score of 223 ended up second. In amateurs (net) Sameer Merchant (DHA) with a score of 209 was first while Ahmed Noman Khan (DWGC) with a score of 214 ended up second.

In ladies winner net was Nagmana Atif while winner gross was Humaira Khalid. At the end the chief guest distributed trophies and prizes among winners in various categories.
