Addressing the Plight of Kashmiri Women: International Panel Calls for Justice and Empowerment

Islamabad, In recognition of International Women’s Day, a thought-provoking webinar titled “Women’s Rights: A Journey Towards Equality” was hosted by the Kashmir Institute of International Relations (KIIR) in collaboration with the International Muslim Women Union (IMWU). The event aimed to spotlight the persisting challenges and injustices faced by women in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Kashmir Media Service, the webinar featured a diverse panel of esteemed speakers, including American human rights defender Marry Scully, Naila Sharif, Chairperson of the Jammu Kashmir Self Determination Movement, UK; Dr. Fara from Australia, Sahibzadi Mardiya Sultana Faizpuri from the Azad Kashmir Commission of National Status of Women; UK, Dr. Saira Shah, a Professor at Mirpur University of Science and Technology, and Dr. Shaheen Akhter from National Defence University.

The panelists collectively shed light on the severe challenges confronting Kashmiri women, emphasizing the critical need for their empowerment and the pursuit of justice within the region. The dialogue underscored the imperative of elevating the voices of Kashmiri women, ensuring their rights are not only recognized but also rigorously protected and promoted.

Throughout the webinar, the speakers delved into the complex realities faced by women in conflict-afflicted areas, drawing attention to their ongoing fight for respect, justice, and autonomy.
