Agreements for Cooperation B/W Saint Petersburg, Sindh to be inked next week: Chairperson Sindh Board of Investment

Karachi, April 19, 2018 (PPI-OT): Chairperson Sindh Board of Investment (SBI), Ms. Naheed Memon on Thursday said that roadmap for cooperation between Saint Petersburg and Sindh in different sectors would be decided through agreements expected to be inked next week during tentative visit of a high level Russian delegation to Pakistan.

In a statement, Chairperson SBI Ms. Naheed Memon said that a delegation from Russia is expected to Pakistan on the occasion of 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Russia. The Russia intends to open the doors of its markets for the products and services of Pakistan and a delegation from Russia to be headed by the Vice Governor Saint Petersburg, Movchan Sergei Nikolaevich is expected to visit Pakistan next week to enter various agreements for the purpose.

Ms. Naheed said that a high-level Russian delegation is scheduled to visit Karachi next week on the invitation of Sindh Government. The government of Sindh and Saint Petersburg had signed the “Sindh-Saint Petersburg Agreement of Mutual Cooperation” in October 2017, in Saint Petersburg, she recalled.

The visit to the Russian delegation is continuation of the agreement which were signed in Saint Petersburg, she added. The Chairperson SBI said that the business to business meetings between investors from Sindh with the Russian delegation is also scheduled on April 24. The Russian delegation will comprising the companies working in the fields of textile, energy, oil and gas, light industries, pharmaceutical, water treatment, aviation, food and other sectors, she said. She said that the trade and business through banking channel will also be discussed with the Russian delegation. The delegation will also meet with the officials of PIA and Civil Aviation Authority to discuss the matter with regard to operations of airlines for direct flight between Karachi and Saint Petersburg, she added.

She said that the Russian companies are also interested in trade of leather garments, home textile goods, fashion garments and cotton yarns with Pakistan and it also want to take benefits from Pakistan expertise and skills in textile sector. President of Restaurant and Hotel Federation of Russia are also expected to visit along with the delegation who want to hold dialogue about trade of food commodities, she said. The Russian companies working in water treatment sector will also meet with officials of departments in Pakistan.
