Srinagar, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognized dispute, not merely an internal issue of India, as validated by United Nations resolutions.
According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas stated in Srinagar that India’s refusal to acknowledge the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir stems from a hegemonic mindset. Minhas described India’s control over the region as “the worst manifestation of modern-day colonialism.” He highlighted the Modi government’s actions on August 5, 2019, which stripped the region of its special status, as a violation of international law that cannot alter the fundamental nature of the dispute.
Minhas emphasized that the denial of the right to self-determination is at the heart of the Kashmir conflict. He called on the international community to pressure New Delhi to adhere to its international obligations regarding Jammu and Kashmir. The APHC asserts that the future of the region should be determined by its people, in accordance with historical context and international norms.
The APHC spokesman also expressed grave concerns about the human rights situation in the region, urging the United Nations to fulfill its responsibility by advocating for a resolution based on Security Council resolutions to end the suffering of the Kashmiri people and establish lasting peace in South Asia.
