APHC Demands Accountability for Killings and Arrests in Kashmir

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and other pro-freedom organizations have condemned the extrajudicial killings of civilians in Baramulla and Kathua districts, along with the mass arrests of Kashmiri youth by Indian troops in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, the APHC spokesman, Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, along with representatives from the Jammu Kashmir Muslim League, Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu Kashmir, Tehreek-e-Wahdat-e-Islami, and Pairwan-e-Wilayat, highlighted a rise in extrajudicial killings and arbitrary arrests. They claimed these actions aim to instill fear among Kashmiris to suppress their struggle for freedom.

The organizations criticized the intensified crackdown by the BJP-led Indian government on pro-freedom Kashmiris. They argued that Indian military and paramilitary forces have been empowered to systematically repress the population, turning the region into an open-air prison where youth are detained on fabricated charges and subjected to torture.

Reports indicate that over 500 youth have been arrested in recent operations across IIOJK. These arrests are described as efforts to instill fear and suppress political dissent. The APHC and allied groups maintain that despite these tactics, the resolve of the Kashmiri people remains unbroken.

The APHC called for a transparent investigation into the killings in Baramulla and Kathua and demanded accountability from Indian forces. They also urged the release of detained youth and an end to the repression in the region.

The organizations appealed to the international community to address the human rights situation in IIOJK and to take steps to resolve the Kashmir dispute, which they argue is central to regional instability and human rights violations.
