APHC urges UN, HR watchdogs to raise voice over abuses in IOK

Srinagar, January 28, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference while chalking out a weeklong agitation programme against the closure of Pathribal fake encounter case by Indian Army, has called upon the United Nations and human rights organizations to raise their voice over injustices with the people of Kashmir at the hands of Indian forces.

The APHC in a statement issued in Srinagar deplored the apathy of the world community towards the sufferings of the people of Kashmir and cautioned that peace in South Asia would remain elusive unless the Kashmir dispute was resolved as per Kashmiris’ wishes.

The APHC expressed concern over a clean-chit given to Indian army personnel responsible for the Pathribal fake encounter and noted that it was due to the draconian law, Armed Forces Special Powers Act, that several Pathribal-like fake encounters had taken place in the territory.

“The APHC will organize a seminar at its headquarters on January 29, Wednesday, to analyze the far-reaching consequences of this decision. Besides Hurriyet leadership, eminent political thinkers and legal experts will express their views in the seminar. It will hold protest demonstrations across the territory on January 31, Friday, to protest against the Pathribal case decision.”

The statement appealed to the Imams of all Masajid and Imam Barghas to raise voice in Friday congregations against this injustice. He said that the Hurriyet leaders would lead the protest demonstrations at selected places on the day to protest against the continued imposition of black laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) which was being used as a cover to provide immunity to Indian forces for the atrocities and acts of killings committed by them.
