Asif Durrani assumes responsibility as Pakistan’s envoy in United Arab Emirates

Islamabad, February 05, 2014 (PPI-OT): Mr. Asif Durrani today assumed the responsibility as the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the United Arab Emirates.

He called on His Excellency Mr. Abdullah bin Mohammad Butti Al Hamid, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UAE at Abu Dhabi. He also met with H.E. Mr. Shahab Ahmed Al Fahimi, Chief of Protocol of the UAE and presented a copy of his credentials. Ambassador Durrani is a career diplomat.

CURRICULUM VITAE OF H.E. ASIF DURRANI AMBASSADOR OF PAKISTAN TO THE UAE

Holds degrees of M.Sc. Chemistry, University of Balochistan, Quetta and Masters in International Studies and Diplomacy, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. Joined Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1986.

Held various diplomatic assignments in Pakistan Missions: Second Secretary in New Delhi (1990-1994); First Secretary in Tehran (1998-2000); Counsellor in New York (2001-2003); Minister/Deputy Head of Mission in Kabul (2005-2009) and Deputy High Commissioner in London (2009-2011).

He served at Headquarters as Section Officer (1988-1989, 1994-1995), Director UN and Disarmament (1997 and 2004-2005) and Director General (UN) in 2011-2012.

Served as Additional Secretary (Foreign Affairs) in President’s Secretariat from February 2012 till August 2013 before proceeding on 99th National Management College (NMC) Course in August 2013. He joined the Mission in Abu Dhabi on 2 February, 2014. He is married with four children.
