Azad Kashmir and Karachi Collaborate on Climate Change Education Curriculum

Muzaffarabad, A significant consultation meeting was held by Nizamat Higher Research and Development Curriculum Azad Kashmir and the Teachers Resource Center (TRC) Karachi to discuss and enhance the climate change education curriculum. This collaborative effort aims to integrate comprehensive climate change awareness and strategies into the educational frameworks of Azad Kashmir and beyond.

According to Press Information Department – Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the meeting brought together key educational stakeholders, including officers from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, teachers from both public and private sectors, and curriculum experts from TRC Karachi. The discussions focused on refining the draft curriculum to align it with Pakistan’s national standards and the specific environmental challenges faced by regions like Azad Kashmir.

The proposed changes to the curriculum include the incorporation of topics such as waste management, forest fire protection, and urban planning, emphasizing the National Climate Change Policy 2021 and related legislations. Ms. Anbreena Ahmed, Director of TRC Karachi, expressed gratitude to the Azad Government and educational departments for their input and looked forward to finalizing the curriculum by September, following further consultations with experts from all Pakistani provinces and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The meeting also featured presentations by TRC curriculum experts Ms. Nighat Lone, Ms. Tabinda Jabeen, and Ms. Misbah Karamat, who outlined the technical details and implementation plans for the curriculum in schools. Noteworthy contributions were also made by Chairman Textbook Board Syed Tufail Bukhari and Director Nizamat Extension Education Ms. Fauzia Sadiq.

The event concluded with the distribution of certificates to participants and special acknowledgments by Raja Muhammad Naseer Khan, Chief Research and Development Curriculum Coordinator, and Mudassar Manzoor Qureshi, Assistant Director DCRD, praising the TRC’s efforts in successfully conducting the consultation.
