ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has commended the efforts of various ministries and their respective ministers for successfully completing the initial three waves of a government rightsizing initiative aimed at restructuring 43 ministries and approximately 400 attached departments by the end of the current financial year.
According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Aurangzeb chaired a meeting of the Committee on Rightsizing the Federal Government. The meeting focused on the progress of the rightsizing exercise and outlined plans for upcoming phases. The minister highlighted that the next stage would involve a detailed review of five specific ministries: Communications, Railways, Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, Revenue, and Petroleum.
During the meeting, the Ministry of Communications presented its organizational structure and explored potential opportunities for semi-privatization and public-private partnership (PPP) models. It was highlighted that the ministry had already abolished all dyeing posts as part of its rightsizing efforts.
Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan further noted that the National Highway Authority (NHA) could significantly increase revenue for the government by channeling resources into the development of revenue-generating motorways, such as the M-6 from Sukkur to Karachi port.
