Quetta: Provincial Irrigation Minister Mir Muhammad Sadiq Imrani announced plans to implement an early warning system across Balochistan to mitigate the impacts of climate change and better manage flood risks during monsoon seasons. This initiative, supported by the Asian Bank and the World Bank, aims to provide timely flood notifications and reduce water wastage.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the announcement was made during a meeting focused on the introduction of modern technologies to combat the frequent flood disasters in the region. Secretary of Irrigation Hafiz Abdul Majid, Chief Engineer of Quetta Bashiruddin Tareen, and other key officials were present, discussing the strategic deployment of this technology.
Minister Imrani emphasized the urgency of adapting to climate change effects, noting that the early warning system would play a crucial role in safeguarding the province from potential natural disasters. He highlighted that the system would initially cover 12 major water basins in Balochistan, enabling accurate forecasts and prompt responses to flood conditions.
The meeting also addressed the need for repairs to canal infrastructures damaged by recent rains, with assurances that the necessary measures are being taken to maintain the integrity of the water management systems.
