Islamabad: Bank Alfalah has announced a strategic collaboration with the Legal Aid Society to launch the “ADAL – Justice with Dignity, Awareness and Empowerment” project, aimed at enhancing financial and legal literacy among marginalized groups in Pakistan. The initiative, supported by a PKR 6 million donation from Bank Alfalah, seeks to empower 2,000 individuals over the next year.
The project, implemented by the Legal Aid Society, will concentrate its efforts in Karachi’s underprivileged areas, providing structured educational sessions and legal assistance to those often excluded from formal systems of justice and finance. This program will focus on women and minority communities, working to bridge the gap between knowledge and access.
Over the course of the year, trained paralegals from LAS will conduct 100 community awareness sessions, educating participants about their rights and helping them navigate legal processes. The initiative also includes pro bono legal representation for women, offering direct assistance to those without the means to afford counsel.
Mian Ejaz Ahmad, Company Secretary and Group Head, Legal and Corporate Affairs at Bank Alfalah, emphasized the project’s alignment with their mission to reduce systemic inequalities and empower communities. Barrister Haya Emaan Zahid, CEO of the Legal Aid Society, highlighted the importance of making justice accessible and tangible for those who need it most.
The ADAL project is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 16 and SDG 10, and will include regular progress reporting to ensure transparency and accountability. This collaboration sets a precedent for how the private sector can engage with civil society to advance access to justice in Pakistan.
