Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Delegation Discusses Digitalization with Pakistan’s IT Minister

Islamabad, A delegation from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, led by Deputy Director Jason Lamb and Country Lead Syed Ali Mahmood, met with Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja on Monday to discuss various digital initiatives in Pakistan. The discussions focused on the Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP), fiberization, connectivity, and digital payments, which are pivotal for the country’s digital transformation.

According to Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Minister Khawaja emphasized that digitalization is a key priority for the government, with ongoing efforts to enhance citizen and business access to digital services. She highlighted the critical importance of fiberization, connectivity, and digital devices in achieving comprehensive digitalization, which aims to improve public service delivery and transparency.

The meeting, which also included Waqas ul Hasan, CEO of Karandaaz, and Director General International Coordination, MoITT Syed Jawwad Ali Sherazi, saw the Gates Foundation delegation express support for Pakistan’s digital ambitions. They assured full support from the Foundation to help advance the digitalization process in Pakistan.
