BJP’s Election Strategy in IIOJK Questioned Amid Fears of Electoral Setback

Srinagar, Political analysts are casting doubt on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) electoral strategy in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), amid speculation that the party fears a defeat in the upcoming elections.

According to Kashmir Media Service, analysts suggest that the BJP-led administration under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is avoiding direct engagement with the region’s issues due to anticipated electoral challenges. Ravish Kumar, a political analyst, critiqued the BJP’s previous election tactics, which he claimed relied on misinformation, and highlighted the party’s reluctance to field candidates in Kashmir following the controversial revocation of Article 370, which had granted special status to the region.

The sentiment is echoed by Tanveer Sadiq of the National Conference, who noted widespread discontent with the BJP’s governance over the past six years in IIOJK. Mehbooba Mufti, president of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), also criticized the BJP, stating that the party’s policies have undermined local governance and failed to maintain legitimacy through proxy representations in Kashmir.

The concerns reflect deep-seated tensions and dissatisfaction with the central government’s handling of the region’s delicate political landscape, which continues to impact the electoral dynamics in IIOJK.
