Islamabad: Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Senator Dr. Musadik Malik, met with the High Commissioner of Canada to Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Tarik Ali Khan, to discuss potential avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
High Commissioner Tarik Ali Khan extended condolences for the recent attack on Cadet College Wana in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and expressed Canada’s hope for regional peace and stability. He also expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s facilitation in importing Canadian Canola Oil.
The dialogue centered on strengthening collaboration in areas such as community welfare, climate-adaptive agriculture, and sustainable economic growth. The High Commissioner highlighted the role of the Canadian Commercial Commission in providing support through government-to-government arrangements.
Canada’s advancements in climate-adaptive agriculture were also discussed, with an expressed interest in partnering with Pakistan to encourage sustainable practices and technology exchange.
Dr. Musadik Malik acknowledged Canada’s leadership in global climate efforts, particularly its balanced approach to hydrocarbon market management and clean energy initiatives. He noted that Canada’s experience could provide valuable insights for Pakistan’s economic transition towards sustainability.
The Minister also introduced Pakistan’s Green Clusters initiative aimed at fostering innovation, youth entrepreneurship, and green startups. Both parties reiterated their commitment to ongoing dialogue and cooperation to achieve shared objectives in climate resilience, clean energy, and sustainable development.
