Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is not levying any fines on heavy traffic vehicles in the federal capital, Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar stated. The minister clarified the role of the CDA in traffic regulation during a Senate session, emphasizing that the Islamabad Traffic Police is responsible for handling such matters.
According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Tarar addressed questions in the Senate’s Question Hour, where he confirmed the CDA’s lack of authority to impose fines on heavy traffic vehicles (HTVs). The minister reiterated that all traffic-related issues fall under the jurisdiction of the Islamabad Traffic Police.
Furthermore, Minister Tarar discussed the CDA’s approach to tree management in Islamabad. He emphasized that the removal or cutting of trees by the CDA is conducted through a structured mechanism. Such actions are permitted only for executing significant projects or addressing pollen allergy concerns, with a stipulation that each removed tree is replaced by planting three new ones.
The minister also noted that the CDA has implemented a practice of transferring or relocating trees to preserve them, signaling a shift in how the authority manages urban greenery.
The Senate session concluded with the House being adjourned until the following Monday at 4:00 p.m., continuing its agenda for the legislative body.
