Karachi: Cement dispatches in January 2025 reached 3.9 million tons, marking a 14 percent year-over-year increase, spurred by a 12 percent rise in local dispatches and a 30 percent surge in export volumes.
According to a statement by JS Global, this marks the second month in the fiscal year 2025 where local dispatches have shown year-over-year growth, supported by a stabilizing macroeconomic climate and declining interest rates. Recent reductions in cement prices over the last two months have also contributed to this upward trend. However, the total dispatches for the first seven months of fiscal year 2025 saw a 2 percent year-over-year decline due to a 7 percent drop in local dispatches, which overshadowed a 32 percent rise in exports.
The price difference between the North and South maximum retail prices has diminished, becoming flat compared to a nearly 7 percent difference in previous months, following a correction in cement prices in the North region. This stabilization is expected to aid in the recovery of local cement dispatches throughout fiscal year 2025, as monetary easing potentially fuels construction activity, though the year may still conclude with a negative overall performance.
