Chairman FESCO Board Announces Aggressive Campaign Against Electricity Theft and Defaulters, Offers Rewards for Informants –

Faisalabad, September 22, 2023 (PPI-OT): Chairman FESCO Board of Directors Malik Tehseen Awan has said that on the instructions of the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Ministry of Energy, a campaign against electricity theft is ongoing in the FESCO Region. A reward policy has been introduced for informant. Under the policy, the reporting person or agency will be rewarded with 10% of the recovery of theft. He said these things while addressing a press conference at the FESCO Headquarters along with Chief Executive FESCO Engineer Bashir Ahmad. He further said that their identity card data is being shared with NADRA and other National agencies and steps will be taken to cancel their identity cards, passports. Defaulters will no longer be able to get property and loans.

He added that bureaucrats, politicians or any influential person will be treated indiscriminately against theft. The temporary connections of 472 housing societies, commercial plazas of FESCO region are being reviewed and the connections of 20 illegal societies have been disconnected and action will also be taken against the employees involved in providing illegal connections. For recovery from permanently disconnected consumers, the division staff will get 4%, division 2%, circle 2% and Headquarters staff 2%. He further said that in the 16 days of the campaign against electricity theft, more than 1,400 cases of electricity theft have been reported so far.

Cases have been registered against 1306 of them, 144 electricity thieves have been arrested and more than 39 Lac 64 Thousand detection units have been imposed on them. The value of the fine is more than 17 Crore 48 Lac. There are 29 agricultural and 4 industrial consumers whose meters, transformers have been removed. FESCO's special task forces are checking day and night. This campaign will continue until the last electricity thief is caught. FESCO teams have been attacked and fired by electricity thieves in some areas. In order to prevent these types of incidents from now on, in case of attacks on the teams, terrorism charges will be issued against the accused. Despite all the difficulties, the morale of the FESCO teams is high and FESCO has the support of the district administration and police of all eight districts in this national cause.

A special campaign has also been launched against Recovery from defaulters is being done on a daily basis. So far 19.57 Million have been recovered from all types of defaulters, more than 3.79 Million have been recovered from running defaulters and more than 11.31 Million have been recovered from permanent defaulters. The number of permanent defaulters of FESCO for more than one year is 25066 with liabilities of 84 Crore 93 Lac. In order to provide convenience to the customers, the installment facility has been provided to the customers in payment of around 4 Crore rupees.
