Brussels: Chairman of the Kashmir Council Europe (KCEU), Ali Raza Syed, led a protest at Europe Square in Brussels, addressing the 2019 removal of Articles 370 and 35A by the Indian government, which he claims undermines the rights and identity of the people in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protest saw significant attendance and featured speeches condemning the Indian government’s actions on August 5, 2019, as illegal and detrimental to the rights of Kashmiris. The gathering included activists, human rights defenders, and a broad public audience who were briefed on the situation in occupied Kashmir.
Participants displayed placards and banners while chanting for the right to self-determination for Kashmiris. The protest also served as a platform to discuss the broader implications of the Indian government’s policies, including demographic changes and the arrest of Kashmiri leaders.
Furthermore, Ali Raza Syed detailed the ongoing struggles faced by the people of Kashmir under Indian policies, which have led to numerous human rights violations since 2019. These include the detention of political figures, suppression of religious freedoms, and severe military operations.
The chair of KCEU called on international organizations and the global community to respond to these human rights abuses and support Kashmiris in their pursuit of self-determination as outlined by United Nations resolutions.
