Karachi, April 19, 2016 (PPI-OT):Chief Secretary Sindh, Muhammad Siddiqui Memon has asked the Health Department, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Divisional Commissioners, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation / Municipal Corporations and other relevant Institutions to be ALERT in the existing summer season in view of the Heat Waves.
He ordered this while presiding a high level meeting held in Sindh Secretariat this morning. The meeting was attended by the Secretaries of Health and Coordination, Administrator KMC, all Divisional Commissioners, senior officials of K-Electric, PDMA, SEPCO and others. Secretary Irrigation, Zaheer Hyder Shah also attended.
Commissioner Karachi, Asif Hyder Shah made a presentation in which, he pointed out that 171-First Response Centre for Heat Stroke patients are being established in Karachi of those 50 in District West, 28 in District South, 38 in District Central, 22 in District Malir, 17 in District East and 16 in District Korangi would facilitate the patients. He disclosed that Ambulances are also being arranged, in association of charity organizations, as well as Hospitals in Private Sector including Agha Khan, Baqai, Indus, Liaquat National, Ziauddin and South City Hospital would also associate with Sindh Government, in this regard.
Administrator KMC, Laiq Ahmed informed the meeting that all KMC Hospitals have been ready to cope with the issue of Heat Stroke, while medicines and other necessities are being procured. K-Electric officials brought out that all out efforts are being ensured to continue the power-supply, however, Chief Secretary asked them that load-shedding, if possible, be minimized, during the Heat Waves.
PDMA representative assured that in consultation with all concerned departments, effective services will be delivered in emergency. Executive Director JPMC, Dr. Anees Bhatti and Director, Dr. Seemin Jamali apprised the meeting that all necessary arrangements have been completed to this effect.
Chief Secretary advised all the participants to ascertain the core issues and mutually combat the Heat Waves, in the larger national interest. He noted that all necessary arrangements must be made, as well, he also advised the Secretary Finance to release the allocated funds for the task, Memon also asked the Education and Labour Secretaries to review school and Labour working / duty times, in accordance with the Heat Waves and unnecessary leaves to the Medical / Para Medical Staff should be revoked.
