China Enhances Gwadar Port’s Disaster Preparedness with Early Warning System

Karachi, In a significant move to bolster Pakistan’s disaster readiness, China has equipped Gwadar Port with an advanced early warning system, aiming to mitigate the impacts of natural calamities such as catastrophic floods and torrential rains. This development marks a crucial step in enhancing the emergency management capabilities of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship project under the Belt and Road Initiative.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the provision of the early warning system is a result of the collaborative efforts between the China Meteorological Administration and Pakistan’s Meteorological Department (PMD). This collaboration seeks not only to strengthen the CPEC’s resilience against major meteorological disasters but also to improve the PMD’s institutional abilities to address the increasing hydro-meteorological challenges.

The installation of the early warning system at Gwadar Port, a strategic node in the CPEC, underscores the depth of Sino-Pakistani cooperation in areas extending beyond economic investments to include critical infrastructure resilience and disaster risk reduction. This initiative is expected to play a pivotal role in safeguarding lives and assets, highlighting the broader objectives of the Belt and Road Initiative to create sustainable and secure development pathways for participating nations.
