Chinese Delegation Explores New Economic Ventures with Pakistan

LAHORE: In a move poised to enhance economic ties between Pakistan and China, a top-level Chinese business delegation visited the Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI). The meeting, held on Monday, brought together senior representatives from over ten influential Chinese companies and institutions, aiming to foster collaboration in sectors such as renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and healthcare.

The delegation was led by Mr. David Zhu and included key figures like Mr. Musar Yang from the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce. The visit featured business dialogues, briefings, and networking sessions, establishing a platform for potential partnerships.

Brig. Mansoor Saeed Sheikh (Retd), Senior Vice President of PCJCCI, highlighted technology transfer as a cornerstone of cooperation. China, recognized for its advancements in digital infrastructure and smart manufacturing, expressed readiness to engage in joint ventures with Pakistan.

Mr. Zhu emphasized the strategic potential of Pakistan, envisioning it as a hub for industrial growth through cooperative research and localized production. PCJCCI President Nazir Hussain echoed this sentiment, citing the opportunity for industries such as solar technology and AI-powered logistics.

A notable aspect of the visit was China’s invitation for Pakistani businesses to participate in its wholesale market network, offering free access to international sellers. This initiative aims to promote “Made-in-Pakistan” products in Chinese markets.

PCJCCI leaders praised the invitation, viewing it as a step toward trade democratization. Both parties acknowledged the need for structural reforms and policy alignment to maximize economic cooperation. Recommendations included creating sector-specific working groups and simplifying trade regulations.

The Chinese delegation expressed interest in collaborating on reform proposals and pilot programs within the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Zafar Iqbal, Vice President of PCJCCI, described the visit as the beginning of a new era of bilateral cooperation, with shared goals of fostering innovation and improving trade balance.
