Cleaning of Drains before Next Monsoon

Karachi: Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed has directed to complete the cleaning of drains before monsoon rains and improve the existing condition of six major drains of city with the urgent removal of hurdles in the drainage system. He was chairing a meeting to review and discuss the cleaning of city drains before monsoon rains.

Director General Technical Services Altaf G. Memon, Director Health Services Dr. Shaukat Zaman and chief engineers of all zones attended the meeting. Administrator Karachi said that PC-I of Pitcher Drain was prepared and work of its reconstruction will begin soon. All the boundary walls, roofs and culverts of drains will be repaired and maintained before the monsoon rains.

He said that drainage of rain water was being given importance in the construction of roads in the city. Korangi Crossing Road, 8000 Road, 12000 Road, Shahrah-e-Altaf, Hub River Road, Mosamyat Road and other roads will be linked with the concerned drains before the monsoon season.

He also directed to complete the survey of Memon Masjid M.A. Jinnah Road Nullah, Akbar Road Nullah, Soldier Bazaar Nullah, Lucky Star Nullah and Coast Guard Nullah in next three days and start work on it so that it could be completed before rains.

He also instructed Senior Director Health Services to hold weekly meeting regarding cleaning of nullahs and submit reports in this connection. He directed Works and Services Department to work out a combined strategy for rains in coordination of all DMCs so that any emergency situation could be dealt with. Administrator Karachi said that any negligence in the drainage of rain water will not be tolerated.
