Competition Tribunal Reduces Penalty but Upholds Violation Findings Against NFC Employees Cooperative Housing Society

Islamabad: The Competition Appellate Tribunal has affirmed the Competition Commission of Pakistan’s (CCP) ruling regarding restrictive practices by the NFC Employees Cooperative Housing Society but has reduced the imposed penalty.

According to Competition Commission of Pakistan, the tribunal supported the initial findings that the NFC Employees Cooperative Housing Society violated competition laws by enforcing exclusivity with a single cable television provider, thereby limiting consumer choice among residents. Originally fined one million rupees in 2016 for this violation, the penalty has now been decreased to 500,000 rupees. This reduction reflects the society’s shift towards compliance and cooperation with regulatory standards.

This case underscores ongoing efforts by the CCP to ensure competitive practices in housing societies and to protect consumer rights against monopolistic behaviors.
