COP29 President-designate Calls for United Global Action on Climate Change

Islamabad, Mukhtar Babayev, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources and President-designate of the upcoming COP29, today emphasized the need for global collective efforts to address climate change. During a media briefing in Islamabad, Babayev discussed the critical nature of the climate issues and highlighted his visit’s focus on fostering international cooperation on environmental protection.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Babayev’s statements were part of broader discussions on enhancing global climate action. Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, also spoke at the event, detailing Pakistan’s initiatives like the Green Pakistan, Living Indus Basin, and National Adaptation Plan, which are aimed at combating climate challenges.

Alam further stressed the importance of making the loss and damage fund more effective to assist countries that are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. This fund is crucial for providing financial support to nations most affected by environmental disruptions.
