Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad Commemorates July 5 as Dark Day in Pakistan’s History

Karachi: Deputy Mayor Karachi, Salman Abdullah Murad, marked July 5 as a somber anniversary in Pakistan’s history, reflecting on the consequences of the military coup led by General Zia-ul-Haq and its impact on the nation’s democratic fabric.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, during his statement, Murad criticized the actions of General Zia, asserting that the coup caused “irreparable damage” to Pakistan by suppressing democratic voices and violating constitutional norms. He highlighted the enduring popularity and contributions of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, whom he credited with making Pakistan a nuclear power, describing him as the “heartbeat of the people.”

Murad also voiced strong support for the continued efforts of President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, towards the development and strengthening of Pakistan. He underscored the party’s history of sacrifices and its readiness to make further sacrifices for the country’s future.
