Karachi: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has lauded the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination for its strides in promoting electric vehicles (EVs), aiming to reduce the nation’s dependency on fossil fuels. Aman Paracha, the Vice President of FPCCI, highlighted the importance of expanding EV charging infrastructure, promoting motorcycle retrofitting, and providing consumer financing to make EVs more accessible and affordable for the public.
Paracha identified the scarcity of EV charging stations in urban areas as a significant hurdle. However, he noted the active efforts of Sindh’s Provincial Energy Minister, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, and FPCCI’s Energy Standing Committee Convener, Malik Khuda Bux, in working towards the installation of such facilities.
He further mentioned that Malik Group, in partnership with Chinese collaborators, is investing in EV charging stations and plants across Pakistan. This investment is expected to facilitate the country’s shift towards electric transportation.
In light of the rising fuel costs, Paracha stressed the necessity for robust policy measures to accelerate the transition of vehicles to electric. He urged the federal government to introduce a comprehensive EV infrastructure policy with a minimum validity of five years, to ensure sustained progress in this domain.
