Lahore, July 05, 2012 (PPI-OT): Every disable person deserves opportunities for productive employment in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity. To this regard, Lahore Businessmen Association for Rehabilitation of Disabled (LABARD) was playing a matchless and vital role.
This was stated by the former President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Shahzad Ali Malik while speaking at the inauguration of LABARD camp established at Mumtaz Bakhtawar Hospital founded by Sitara-e-Imtiaz Mohammad Shafi Malik (Late).
He said that the disabled persons have the ability to make valuable contributions in the workforce as employees, entrepreneurs and employers but they face numerous barriers that prevent them from fulfilling their potential. Yet, whenever the opportunity arises, persons with disabilities prove their worth as productive members of the workforce.
He said that both the philanthropists and the government should join hands for the rehabilitation of disabled persons so that they could be able to play their role as active member of the society.
Shahzad Ali Malik said that in the developed world, the disabled persons are always given a special treatment, they are provided with every possible facility so that they could use their abilities for the well-being of society and now the situation in Pakistan was also taking a positive turn and a large number of disabled persons are running their own businesses with the help of LABARD.
He said that it is social responsibility of every single individual to play his role for rehabilitation of disabled persons.
LCCI former president said that the government should petronise all LABARD-like institutions so that the stigma of disability could be removed from the face of Pakistani society. He said that it is religious and moral duty of the whole private sector to ensure jobs to the disabled persons so that they could enjoy the status equal to other members of the society.
