Federal Govt asks provinces to activate price control committees: PM

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar says the federal government has asked the provinces to activate price control committees in view of sugar price hike.

In an interview with a private TV channel, he warned of a crackdown against the hoarders.

To a question about the issue of electricity bills, the Prime Minister said the government is coming up with short and mid-term solutions, including a planning to convert the oil-based power plants to run on local coal.

He said the process of privatization of one or two power Discos will be finalized soon, which would help curb power theft through the introduction of new technology, and would also attract investment.

Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said besides power Discos, the privatization of some important state-owned enterprises is also being processed.

Replying to a question about his strategy if any future scenario demands an extension in the caretaker setup, he assured with certainty that as per legal arrangement, they would move to the electoral process within three to four months.
