Islamabad, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, visited the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) to review its state-of-the-art research facilities and discuss advancements with agricultural scientists. The visit aimed to emphasize the importance of agricultural research in ensuring food security and the sustainability of the agricultural sector in Pakistan.

According to Pakistan Agricultural Research Council, the Minister praised the efforts of the Chairman of the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) and the institution’s contributions to national food and nutritional security. He reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity through continued research and technological innovation, especially in times of economic challenges. The visit underscored the critical role of agricultural research in addressing global issues like climate change and the need for ongoing financial support to fuel technological advancements in the sector.

Chairman PARC, Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Ali, expressed appreciation for the Minister’s support and the involvement of the media and scientific community in promoting food security. He highlighted the essential role of research in scientific progress and the importance of investments in research initiatives. Dr. Ali stressed the importance of collaboration with international institutions to advance the knowledge and capabilities of young agricultural scientists.

During the visit, the Minister was briefed on several innovative projects at NARC, including efforts at the National Institute of Genomics and Advanced Biotechnology, Wheat Speed Breeding, and the Plant Genetic Resources Institute. The discussions also covered the establishment of an endowment fund to ensure continuous funding for research, which Dr. Ali emphasized as crucial for sustaining the momentum of scientific advancements.

The visit concluded with the presence of members from PARC’s Board of Governors, distinguished agricultural scientists, and media personnel, all contributing to a forward-looking dialogue on enhancing Pakistan’s agricultural research capabilities.
