Davos: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb emphasized the critical importance of information technology for Pakistan’s development and stability during a high-level discussion at the World Economic Forum. Speaking in Davos, Aurangzeb outlined the government’s priorities in fostering a robust IT ecosystem to enhance trade and investment.
According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Aurangzeb identified the provision of a strong infrastructure, comprehensive policy framework, and continuity of policies as essential components for the IT sector’s growth. He highlighted Pakistan’s pioneering implementation of the digital Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) initiative as a significant milestone.
Aurangzeb also stressed the necessity of expanding IT horizontally to fully harness its benefits. He noted that Pakistan boasts the third-largest population of freelancers globally, which presents a unique opportunity for growth.
The Finance Minister reported that Pakistan achieved a record monthly IT export figure of $384 million in December. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the IT sector through collaboration with the Digital Corporation Organization (DCO).
Aurangzeb concluded by announcing plans to operationalize Special Technology Zones and promote private sector leadership in driving the country’s economic development.
