Islamabad: The National Assembly has passed “The Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Bill, 2025,” a legislative effort aimed at strengthening the country’s ability to combat cybercrime. The bill, introduced by Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, seeks to protect citizens, institutions, and the national economy from digital threats while promoting a secure digital environment.
According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the bill proposes a comprehensive framework to address cybercrimes, including the establishment of the Digital Rights Protection Authority. The bill outlines clear definitions and regulations concerning unlawful online content, addressing challenges such as hate speech, misinformation, and content that incites violence. It also proposes mechanisms to enhance collaboration with social media platforms and enforce compliance with national laws.
In addition to this bill, the House passed “The Digital Nation Pakistan Bill, 2024,” presented by Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja. This bill focuses on transforming Pakistan into a digitally empowered nation by fostering a dynamic digital society and economy.
