FPCCI and TDAP Join Forces to Enhance Export Growth

Karachi: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) are intensifying their collaborative efforts to craft a long-term trade policy aimed at boosting the country’s exports. Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of FPCCI, emphasized the need for a stable and supportive trade environment to foster growth across both traditional and emerging sectors during the FPCCI’s Export Advancement Conference.

Sheikh highlighted the enthusiastic participation from a range of industries at the conference, underscoring a collective desire to increase export activities, contingent on the provision of an enabling environment. He stressed the importance of developing an export-friendly policy framework to facilitate this growth.

Faiz Ahmad Chadhar, Chief Executive of TDAP, attended the conference as the Chief Guest. He reiterated TDAP’s commitment to ongoing dialogues with industry stakeholders and emphasized the importance of sector-specific research and planning to address industry needs and suggestions.

The conference concluded with a resolution presented by Saquib Fayyaz Magoon, Senior Vice President of FPCCI. The resolution outlined several key demands from the trade and industry sectors. It called for a 20-year Export and Industrial Policy, an active role for Trade and Investment Officers, and the restoration of the Fixed Tax Regime for exporters. The resolution also advocated for the abolition of certain taxes on local manufacturers and the establishment of banking channels in Africa to facilitate trade.

Additionally, the resolution proposed support for women entrepreneurs, the signing of new Free Trade Agreements, and the encouragement of sectors such as mines and minerals, IT, and processed foods, which have significant growth potential.

This collaborative effort between FPCCI and TDAP aims to create a conducive environment for Pakistan’s export growth, benefiting both established and emerging sectors of the economy.
