Gender Based Violence Trainings by Training of Trainers at District /Tehsil level

Islamabad: UN Women is the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, established under a resolution on 2nd July 2010. The establishment of UN Women is a result of years of negotiations between UN Member States and advocacy by the global women’s movement. It is part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. UNWOMEN became operational on 1st January 2011 and officially launched on24th Feb 2011.

UN Women Pakistan is uniquely positioned to support initiatives of the government and non-governmental organizations leading towards a full realization of gender equality and women’s empowerment commitments in line with the national and international gender equality and human rights commitments such as, the Constitution, National Action Plan for Women’s Empowerment, the Beijing Platform for Action, CEDAW, Millennium Declaration, the Millennium Development Goals and others.

UN Women provides support to innovative initiatives that promote women’s human rights with special focus on their economic security, political participation, and freedom from violence, working around the world in partnership with the governments, non-governmental organizations and networks, the UN and other development organizations.

UN Women Pakistan is committed to ensuring that women and girls are able to participate in the post-disaster/crisis rehabilitation and re-settlement processes, whilst remaining protected from any vulnerability or incidents of gender based violence. UN Women supports the Government of Pakistan in the implementation of CEDAW and other international commitment for WHR and IHL to ensure the needs of women and girls are also properly addressed at all levels; be it development, humanitarian response, relief or early recovery.

UN Women has assisted in the coordination of gender sub-cluster meetings, input into the Malakand development strategy, CERINA, PCNA and other cluster documents. Besides leading the Gender Task force to support the humanitarian country team (HCT) for integrating, mainstreaming gender equality in the humanitarian response and is now actively involved in supporting the Government on its early recovery plan and its implementation.
