German Foreign Minister concerned about violent unrest

Karachi, September 18, 2012 (PPI-OT): German Foreign Minister Westerwelle has expressed grave concern at the violent unrest which has targeted the German embassy in Khartoum and diplomatic missions in Egypt, Libya, Yemen and a number of other countries in the Muslim world.

We appeal to the governments of these countries to provide the diplomatic missions there with comprehensive protection. Diplomats need to be able to carry out their work without fear.

We understand the indignation which many faithful Muslims feel towards the anti- Islamic film which has been circulating. We share that indignation at this abhorrent online material; however, we are convinced that not even this horrible video, which really is devoid of all good taste, can be used to justify violence, not to mention murders such as we have just seen. We unequivocally distance ourselves from this kind of defamation of the Prophet and of Islam.
