Germany is Pakistan’s largest trading partner within European Union and biggest source of foreign exchange: Abdul Rahim Janoo

Karachi, February 19, 2015 (PPI-OT): Germany, the largest and the healthiest economy in the European Union has long ties with Pakistan and its textile machinery played an important role in the development of Pakistan’s textile industry. Germany is Pakistan’s largest trading partner within the European Union and biggest source of foreign exchange.

This was stated by Abdul Rahim Janoo, Senior Vice President FPCCI in a meeting with Dr. Tilo Klinner, Consul General of Germany who visited Federation House, Karachi. The meeting was attended by Chief Executive TDAP S. M. Muneer, Muhammad Ikram Rajput, Shahnawaz Ishtiaq, Vice Presidents, Mumtaz Sheikh, Abdul Shakoor Khatri, Nasir Sheikh, and Ismail Suttar and large number of the members of Pak-German Business Council of FPCCI.

The Meeting was also graced by the Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, who emphasized on German investment in various sectors particular in energy and infrastructure sectors. The Chief Minister Sindh also appreciated the efforts of S M Muneer, Chief Executive TDAP for his dynamic role in enhancing bilateral trade of Pakistan with other countries.

Dr. Tilo Klinner, Consul General of Germany said that Pakistan has made a lot of progress and now coming out from difficulties gradually. A huge foreign investment is pouring in different sectors. In this scenario, Germany is keen to enhance the trade and investment in Pakistan especially in energy, sports, textile, agriculture sectors among others.

He further said that fostering economic cooperation through promotion of bilateral trade, investment and industry between both the countries is our prime objective. The Consul General suggested that FPCCI should sign an MOU with Consulate General for necessary coordination and exchange of trade related information so that the level of bilateral trade between both the countries can be enhanced.

He said that there is huge potential in Pakistan’s agriculture sector but without quality certification is not possible to progress further. He also invited the FPCCI to attend Seminar on Investment to be organized by the German Consulate in the month of April at Karachi which will also be attended by 50 to 80 member business delegation from Germany.

He requested that FPCCI may arrange business to business meetings with German delegation on the said occasion. He offered his full support to FPCCI and encouraged the apex body to increase the exchange of bilateral delegations and hold sectoral specific exhibitions in Germany.

S M Muneer invited the Consul General to attend the forthcoming 9th Expo Pakistan scheduled to be held from 26th February and also suggested frequent exchange of trade delegation between both the countries for enhancing bilateral trade.
