Gilani urges people to continue demand for Guru’s body

Srinagar, March 02, 2013(PPI-OT): The veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has urged the people of occupied Kashmir to remain steadfast to their demand for return of Afzal Guru’s mortal remains from New Delhi’s Tihar Jail.

Syed Ali Gilani in his telephonic address to a gathering in Shopian, after being released from house arrest in New Delhi, said that Afzal’s hanging was a cowardly and brutal act on part of the Indian government and had exposed its farce claims of being a democratic country.

He said, “People should always bear in mind the sacrifices rendered by the martyrs. We should not forget the blood of our martyrs and keep pursuing our goal.” He urged the people, particularly the youth, to extend their full support to the liberation movement.

Asking New Delhi to shun stubbornness and resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations, he said, “India will have to sooner or later recognize the just demand of the people of Kashmir.” He also announced that he would return to the occupied territory on March 3 provided he was not arrested at the airport.

Meanwhile, addressing a protest demonstration in Shopian through telephone, he urged people to protest peacefully against the Indian oppression till the movement was taken to its logical end. “

We have lost so many lives since 1947 and we don’t want to lose more, we have to protest against the atrocities but in a peaceful manner,” he added.

On the other hand, the General Secretary of Tehreek-e-Hurriyet Jammu and Kashmir, Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi, has termed the remarks of pro-India National Conference leader, Mustafa Kamal, against Syed Ali Gilani as ridiculous.

In a statement he said that the Kashmiri people knew a lot about both Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah and Syed Ali Gilani and even Mustafa Kamal had made himself clear that there could be no comparison between them.

He said that Syed Ali Gilani had been struggling for the sacred cause, facing hardships and troubles while Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah sold the people of Kashmir for power.
