Government Aims to Expand Tax Base, Finance Minister Announces Digital Transformation Plans

Islamabad, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has outlined a comprehensive strategy to widen Pakistan’s tax base by including sectors such as wholesale, retail, real estate, and agriculture within the tax framework. In a move aimed at modernizing the tax system, Aurangzeb also emphasized the critical need for digitizing the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) during an introductory meeting with its board members today.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Minister’s plans focus on increasing tax collection through improved governance of the FBR, thorough documentation of the economy, and the implementation of full-scale digitization. Aurangzeb believes that by adopting digital solutions, the country can not only modernize its tax administration but also establish a more equitable tax system that supports economic growth and benefits all citizens.

The meeting ended with a mutual agreement to pursue initiatives that enhance the welfare of the Pakistani population. Aurangzeb commended the FBR team for their commitment and assured them of the government’s unwavering support in bringing about these significant changes.
