Government Announces Plans for All Parties Conference on Operation Azm-e-Istehkam

Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar announced the government’s intention to convene an All Parties Conference (APC) to discuss Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to comprehensive national stability and development. During a news conference, Tarar outlined various ongoing initiatives including reforms in taxation, digitization of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and the privatization of state-owned enterprises.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Tarar detailed efforts to broaden the tax net by targeting non-filers with the capacity to pay taxes, a move facilitated by the ongoing digitization of the FBR in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which incurs no cost to the government. He also highlighted the advanced stage of the privatization process of Pakistan International Airlines, which is set to be completed swiftly.

Tarar underscored the government’s foreign policy achievements, noting significant discussions aimed at boosting trade relationships with Central Asian states, Russia, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan. Additionally, he mentioned a productive meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which focused on enhancing barter trade.

The minister also touched on the strategic dialogues conducted during the Pakistan-Turkiye-Azerbaijan trilateral meetings, covering a range of strategic and bilateral issues. Furthermore, in response to the crisis in Gaza, Tarar reiterated the Prime Minister’s call for an immediate ceasefire and condemned the ongoing violence as genocide and crimes against humanity.

The news conference concluded with Tarar affirming that consultations are underway with political allies and other parties to schedule the APC, reflecting a unified approach to address the nation’s challenges.
