Government Takes Steps to Address Power Sector Challenges, Says Federal Minister Leghari

Multan: Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Leghari outlined the government’s efforts to tackle longstanding issues within the power sector and enhance service delivery to electricity consumers.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Leghari, speaking to the media today in Multan, announced that the government is poised to reduce power tariffs within the next year. He detailed measures aimed at cutting electricity theft by up to forty percent compared to the previous fiscal year and highlighted the introduction of prepaid meters by WAPDA to allow consumers to manage electricity usage based on affordability.

Leghari emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving tariff and capacity charge issues through comprehensive stakeholder engagement and adherence to relevant laws. He also noted that distribution companies have been instructed to promptly address consumer complaints and enhance their customer service capabilities.
