Hailstorm and Avalanche Impact Jammu and Kashmir, Disrupt Srinagar-Leh Highway

Srinagar, A severe hailstorm struck multiple locations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, causing significant damage to crops and nearly missing commuters on the Srinagar-Leh Highway at Zojila due to a concurrent avalanche.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the hailstorm affected various places in the Shopian district including Sugoo, Tharina, Molu, Dangerpora, and others. The same storm system led to an avalanche on the Srinagar-Leh Highway at Zojila, which obstructed traffic and posed risks to both locals and tourists. The Meteorological Department noted hail accumulation in Doodhpathri, Budgam, which coated the ground and transformed the tourist spot into a wintry scene.

The Director of the Meteorological Department, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, stated that while the weather should stay dry until April 25, isolated thundershowers in the afternoon could occur. He anticipates cloudy skies and potential light rain with thunder from April 26 to 27. Following the hailstorm, the Meteorological Department advised farmers to continue their agricultural activities after April 21.
