Islamabad, In a strategic move to enhance Pakistan’s export capabilities, Habib Bank Limited (HBL) and the Export-Import Bank of Pakistan (EXIM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and emerging exporters through innovative financial products.
According to Habib Bank Limited, the partnership aims to leverage HBL’s leading position in SME lending and EXIM’s role as Pakistan’s official Export Credit Agency (ECA) to introduce the Export Receivables Discounting, a novel financial service in Pakistan. This service is designed to facilitate cash-flow-based lending and bolster the financial support infrastructure for exporters.
Under the terms of the MoU, HBL and EXIM will work together to develop and implement new products that enhance risk management and provide secure financing options for exporters. This collaboration marks a significant commitment by both institutions to expand the financial horizons for SMEs and boost national export growth by creating a more secure trading environment.
Muhammad Nassir Salim, President and CEO of HBL, commented on the initiative, stating that the partnership with EXIM is crucial for supporting Pakistan’s exporters, especially SMEs and new market entrants. “This collaboration will not only enhance security for exporters but also unlock new financing opportunities, ultimately contributing to a more diversified and robust export sector,” said Salim.
Irfan Bukhari, CEO and President of EXIM, highlighted the benefits of the partnership, emphasizing the support it will provide to Pakistani exporters by mitigating credit risks and enhancing financial stability. “This partnership particularly focuses on enhancing SMEs’ access to financing, empowering them to expand their exports and contribute to Pakistan’s economic growth,” Bukhari added.
This MoU represents a pivotal step in strengthening Pakistan’s export sector through strategic financial innovation and collaborative efforts between two leading financial entities.
